It was so fun to do the machine quilting on this very happy under the sea scene.
My customer Deborah Carmichael designed and appliqued the quilt as a
gift for her grandchild.

I designed the freeform quilting to give a 'watery' and whimsical effect and carried
it right through the borders. The applique' shapes were all very large but had enough
detail to allow me to add discrete quilting along the design lines.

The whale had a large open area that needed additional quilting. After some design
sketches,I decided that contoured quilting lines would best enchance the shape.
Deborah used a very effective design tool in allowing the sea creatures to overlap
the borders of the quilt. It draws the viewer's eye right into the scene.
